For my senior project, I wanted to do something with the Puget Sound Voyaging Society, a local school program designed to bring high school students into contact with the maritime world. The class is focused around rowing and sailing a 27 foot long boat that was designed by one of the three licensed captains who act as teachers. (There's an actual teacher as well: Marci van Cleve, one of my references).
I audited the class, spending over 100 hours with the crew and my camera (including a week-long boating trip), trying to capture the essence of the class for a video. In order to finish before I had to leave for college, I edited as I was still filming. Post production took about 15 to 20 hours.
Although I always feel like I can do better, I think this video represents my abilities well -- it's almost 3.5 minutes long and includes no real dialog.
The video posted here includes a "bonus feature" in the form of an introduction to all the students and a few of the teachers of the class, created after the main video was complete.
